Almost didn't notice your comment. Anyway, you have to talk with the officer in charge in Customs for your package & ask them how did they do the calculation. That is what I did & managed to track down why I was being charged so much tax. After that it depends on the reason the tax is there, in my case, DHL was responsible. So work your way from there. I'm now being taxed more than 50% of my items (bought on eBay) price by customs which is ridiculous since FedEx charge already expensive. But it's not their fault, they took it well though, professionally. Their calculator wasn't crappy actually, it works & it's accurate, just that no mention anywhere on importance of volumetric weight. Asking for a discount? Well, if there was intention to mislead then yeah I would have argued for it. But in this case no there wasn't.
